【摘要】:ThemasonrymortarjointshearstrengthindexobtainedbythistestmethodisrelatedtothemasonrywallshearstrengthbyarelationshipcontainedwithinAppendixChapter1oftheUniformCodeforBuildingConservation.TheuserofthisstandardiscautionedthattheshearstrengthrelationshipcontainedwithintheUniformCodeforBuildingConservationisanempiricalrelationshipbasedontestsofearly20th-centuryunreinforcedbrickmasonry.Therelationshipassumesthatwallshearstrengthislimitedbyshearofthemortarjointsratherthanshearthroughtheunits.Forhollowungroutedorsolidunitmasonryconstructiontheshearstrengthindexismeasuredonlyforthemortarbedjointsverticallyadjacenttotheunitbeingtested.Whentestinghollowungroutedmasonryconstruction,theshearstrengthindexisbasedonthehorizontalinterfacebetweenthemortarandthetestunitandthemasonryaboveandbelowthetestunit.Inthecaseofmulti-wytheconstruction,themeasuredmortarjointshearstrengthindexisapplicableonlytothewytheinwhichthetestunitislocated;noheadersshallexistimmediatelyaboveorbelowthetestunit.Thecontributionofanyexistingcollarjointmortartothemeasuredshearstrengthindexisneglected,andthismayleadtoanoverestimateoftheshearstrengthindex.ThetestprocedurelistedforMethodAmaybeconductedasanextensionofTestMethodC1197.Thetwo-flatjacktest,conductedinaccordancewithTestMethodC1197,provideshalfoftherequiredtestsetupforMethodA.AtthecompletionoftheMethodAtest,onewouldknowthemeasurednormalcompressivestress,thedeformabilityofthemasonryatthetest,andtherelationshipbetweentheexpectedjointshearstrengthindexandthenormalcompressivestress.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverproceduresforthedeterminationoftheaverageinsitumortarjointshearstrengthindexinexistingunreinforcedsolid-unitandungroutedhollow-unitmasonrybuiltwithclayorconcreteunits.Threemethodsareprovided:1.1.1MethodA(withFlatjacksControllingNormalCompressiveStress)8212;FordeterminingmortarjointshearstrengthindexwhenthestateofnormalcompressivestressatthetestsiteiscontrolledduringthetestusingtheflatjackmethoddescribedinTestMethodC1197.Horizontaldisplacementofthetestunitismonitoredthroughoutthetest.ThetestsetupforMethodAisshownin.1.1.2MethodB(withoutFlatjacksControllingNormalCompressiveStress)8212;Fordeterminingmortarjointshearstrengthindexwhenusinganestimateofthenormalcompressivestressatthelocationofthetestsite.Horizontaldisplacementofthetestunitisnotmonitoredduringthisprocedure.ThetestsetupforMethodBisshownin.1.1.3MethodC(withFlatjackApplyingHorizontalLoad)8212;Fordeterminingmortarjointshearstrengthindexusinganestimateofthenormalcompressivestressatthelocationofthetestsite,asshownin.Horizontaldisplacementofthetestunitisgenerallynotmeasuredduringthisprocedure.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
